Record demand after the on-set of the COVID-19 pandemic
In January the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank saw an increase of 24% of pounds of food distributed. The pounds of emergency food boxes went from 2,140,217 to 2,655,337. Each month the totals steadily increased and has kept climbing each month. In June EPFH recorded the highest increase, the food bank distributed more than 15 million pounds of food over the 2.3 million in the same month of 2019. This indicates an increase on the demand for food assistance of 596 percent. In total, so far this year the food bank has distributed 47,838,780 pounds of food over the 32,526,236 distributed for the whole year in 2019. The food bank is already on track to distribute 100 million pounds of food in 2020.
