EPFH has implemented a new distribution model at the 9541 Plaza Circle location. The new model allows individuals to go through intake and get a ticket to receive food. Cars enter the distribution area and park, then clients stand in a short line to turn in their ticket and receive a shopping cart filled with nutritious food. The process ensures safety of volunteers and staff during the harsh heat conditions and can facilitate more traffic with less wait time.
Summer hours at the food bank location have also changed and will be from 6 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday.
The new distribution model is making sure volunteers and staff are safe, stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks as they work to fill the shopping carts with food. When before, volunteers and often staff were out in the lines handing out food, they are now inside the warehouse loading the shopping carts and then wheeling them out to the clients who receive them when they turn in their ticket.
The new model also gives clients the opportunity to feel like they are going shopping and walking out with their groceries.
