El Pasoans Fighting Hunger (EPFH) proudly marked the beginning of Hunger Action Month today as the El Paso County State of Texas passed a resolution naming September as the official month to raise awareness about food insecurity. During the Commissioners Court session, Celeste Varela, EPFH’s Director of Government Relations, accepted the resolution on behalf of the organization.
The resolution brings attention to the fact that 16% of Texas residents, including over one-third of children, face hunger and uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. Hunger Action Month is an opportunity for the community to come together and address this pressing issue. Throughout September, the public is encouraged to get involved through volunteering, raising awareness on social media, and donating to food assistance programs.
By taking part in Hunger Action Month, individuals and organizations can help ensure that no one has to choose between food and other essentials like medicine, utilities, or childcare. It’s a time to make a difference in the fight against hunger and ensure that all community members have access to the food they need.
