Job Opening: Volunteer Coordinator

JOB TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports To: Chief Development Officer (CDO)

Direct Reports: None


  • Create, develop, evaluate and promote a volunteer utilization program from a diverse pool of active volunteers in the community
  • Engage in volunteer management best practices
  • Create a fun and rewarding volunteer experience
  • Maintain awareness relative to the field at the regional, state and national level.
  • Ensure that volunteers are trained in personal safety as well as safe food handling practices.
  • Maintain current and accurate volunteer records and submit required reporting in a timely manner.
  • Send appreciation letters and photos to groups within 48 hours.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all EPFH customers including EPFH clients, staff, donors, logistics personnel, agency personnel, volunteers, board members, and the general public.


With guidance and support from the Chief Development Officer, this position is responsible for:

  • To develop a multi-faceted recruitment approach for attracting a broad base of community volunteers to include individuals, schools, churches, and companies. The goal of recruitment is to have 40 volunteers per 4 hour shift. Volunteers opportunities will include processing, mobile pantries, marketing, development, and administration. Responsible for outreach in the community.
  • To coordinate community service opportunities with Adult Probation/Juvenile Probation, the El Paso Municipal and County Courts, and the Sherriff’s Department. In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator is tasked with encouraging community service members to buy a percentage of their hours.
  • Track all volunteer hours and volunteer contact information and provide monthly reports to CDO and CEO. Update the agency dashboard with monthly volunteer data.
  • Develop and write a monthly volunteer newsletter in coordination with the Director of Communications. Also responsible for writing weekly social media posts and submitting to communications.
  • Work with the CDO and the Director of Communications to insure a steady communication flow.
  • Develop incentives and rewards for outstanding volunteer performance.
  • Send confirming correspondence to individuals, companies, schools, and church groups who will be volunteering.
  • Responsible for fund development with local churches. Annual goals developed in coordination with CDO.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other relevant degree. An Associates is accepted with at least 3 years’ experience in volunteer management.
  • Two years of successful customer service experience requiring strong attention to detail.
  • Work week will be Tuesday through Saturday and some evenings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and projects and consistently meet deadlines;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent customer service;
  • Proficiency with basic software programs such as MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn the Donor Vantage Program, Cervis and Constant Contact
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in writing reports
  • Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to work effectively under periodic stressful conditions
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Self motivated with the ability to interact in a team environment;
  • Positive and professional attitude and demeanor
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to pass random drug testing
