Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Location: 9541 Plaza Circle, El Paso, TX 79927

Reports to: Director of Programs

Position Summary:

The Food FARMacy at El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is a new initiative to address the prevalence of diet-related chronic diseases in our community. Through partnerships with health care providers, individuals who are both food insecure and have been diagnosed with a diet-related chronic disease will be referred to the Food FARMacy program by their medical provider. The program will include access to food distribution through the FARMacy, along with nutrition education and “in the aisle” nutrition guidance to support healthy food choices that align with their prescribed diets. This new position will oversee day-to-day operations at El Pasoans Fighting Hunger’s Food FARMacy, which requires frequent contact with volunteers, community partners, and clients. This position will ensure Food FARMacy is stocked with a variety of nutritious food and is clean throughout the day.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide excellent customer service to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food FARMacy clients.
  • Supervise Food FARMacy Clerk and Stocker
  • Oversee volunteer activities and maintain behaviors consistent with EPFH standards.
  • Assist with selecting foods appropriate for stocking the Food FARMacy.
  • Stock the pantry with appropriate foods while following the first in/first out (FIFO) Priority System
  • Maintain communication with warehouse and forklift staff to maintain appropriate food variety and quantities.
  • Assist clients while shopping through client-choice pantries supporting the nutrition-focused Food FARMacy goals 8. With guidance from Managing Dietitian, assign distribution quantities for available items
  • Ensure proper use of the nutrition labeling system.
  • Ensure compliance requirements for recordkeeping are maintained, including but not limited to documenting visits in the Link2Feed database.
  • Maintain nutrition information materials (i.e., flyers, brochures, recipes)
  • Schedule and facilitate nutrition education events with community partners (i.e., cooking demos, samples, health fairs, etc.)
  • Participate in Food Farmacy program analysis and evaluation efforts.
  • Maintain food safety standards for storage and distribution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years experience working directly with the community
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
  • Willingness to learn nutrition concepts
  • Current ServSafe Food Protection Managers license, or ability to pass the test within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to delegate as appropriate and manage a team of staff and volunteers
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, be team-oriented, demonstrate strong organizational skills, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Passion for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger’s mission.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nutrition education and/or warehouse experience are a plus.
  • The ideal candidate is someone who is flexible as we build out this new program in its pilot phase.

Woking Conditions & Physical Demands

This position operates in a warehouse environment and requires walking, pushing, and lifting (up to 50

pounds), and operating a pallet jack. Additionally, this position requires the use of a computer and other office equipment, such as phones, calculators, computer printers, and copy machines.

The person in this position frequently communicates with internal and external stakeholders (clients, food bank leadership and staff, volunteers, and partners). Must be able to gather and exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasional night or weekend work may be required.

Position Type & Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may require occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

Salary Range & Benefits

The salary range for this position depends on experience. Benefits include: paid time off, health/dental/life insurance, 401(k) retirement savings plan, etc.
