Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Position Summary:

The Director of Strategic Development is responsible for securing critical funding for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger’s mission and programs. The Major Gifts and Development Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts from $5,000 to six-figure gifts, up to a million+, and working with donors on planned giving, as well. Activities can include inviting prospects to tours and events, attending community events, and gathering information for the VIP mailing list. This position manages a portfolio of at least 75 donors within the first twelve months and is evaluated based on established financial benchmarks. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger utilizes Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, a contact management system. This will be an important tool in managing this position’s portfolio of donors. This position researches and solicits new donors and develops existing donors to increase their level of giving and engagement.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger’s annual fundraising goal of $ 14+ million (operations and capital) by managing an increasingly productive portfolio of donors of major donors with ongoing success.
  • Work to identify and qualify potential new donors through visits, phone calls, and video meetings to establish relationships that will result in major gifts.
  • Create, execute, and track the management strategy for all donors in the assigned donor portfolio. Prepare monthly reports to contribute to Committee and Board reports.
  • Contribute materials for Board Meeting presentations and meet with CDO weekly with progress reports.
  • Work collaboratively with others such as marketing and communications staff to recognize and provide press as needed for events, development staff to understand relationships of key donors, as well as identification, prospecting, and cultivation information.
  • Provide personal acknowledgment for significant donor gifts and ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls, and outreach have been sent by the Development Division.
  • Regularly analyze and report results against established goals and metrics; modify donor engagement strategies as necessary and appropriate to meet revenue goals.
  • Collaborate with other team members on special donor events including, but not limited to, major donor events, special marketing events, planned giving events and other donor-specific events.
  • Work to schedule important donors and prospects for monthly Behind the Scenes VIP tours led by the CEO. Working with CDO, make sure the CEO has a weekly list of planned contacts.
  • Maintain positive, active relationships with staff and donors to ensure ongoing support of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and the people we serve.
  • Participate in external speaking engagements to create brand awareness and elevate El Pasoans Fighting Hunger brand within the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 5 years of successful experience securing donations in a nonprofit or university environment.
  • Exemplary relationship-building and communication skills: written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, be team oriented, demonstrate strong organizational skills, take initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member within our fundraising program in support of division goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, database experience, and CMS experience.
  • Passion for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger’s mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Experience helping donors with their planned giving

Woking Conditions & Physical Demands

This position operates in a typical office environment and requires constant use of a computer and other office equipment, such as phones, calculators, computer printers, and copy machines. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.

The person in this position frequently communicates with internal and external stakeholders (food bank leadership and staff, donors, etc.). Must be able to gather and exchange accurate information in these situations. This position requires occasional local travel for meetings (reliable transportation is needed), fundraising events, or professional development opportunities. Infrequent national and/or overnight travel may be required for donor meetings or for optional professional development opportunities. Occasional night, weekend or on-call work may be required.

Position Type & Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position requires occasional evening, weekend and on-call responsibilities.

Salary Range & Benefits

The salary range for this position depends on experience. Benefits include: paid time off, health/dental/life insurance, 401(k) retirement savings plan, etc.
